Here’s a short recap of our first very wonderful year:
Our first story went live on Monday, March 28, 2011. It was a tribute to my favorite documentary,
The Hobart Shakespeareans. My title folded in documentary subject Rafe Esquith’s motto, “Work hard and be nice.”
Our most popular post of the year continues to be
Will the Real Bert and Ernie Raise Their Hands! This piece covered the cartoon series
Bert and Ernie’s Great Adventures and
Abby’s Flying Fairy School that appear on the hit show Sesame Street.
Our most popular day was Friday, June 3rd when our post on Disney’s
Pinocchio got over a thousand hits on one day, owing to a mention by Andrew Sullivan in
The Daily Beast. Seems my use of the word “perverse” started a bit of a stir.
Our most popular topic is “Classic Media.”
We have the most stories under the heading of “Books.”
We’ve had fourteen contributors, with most pieces written by me and the second most written by Jack Silbert.

Interesting topic might be violence on screen. Spoke with a physician who said studies have found that children cannot distinguish between cartoon characters hitting one another and real humans hitting one another. Although the cartoon characters draw a laugh, on a deeper level, the child perceives the two acts as the same...violence. Based on that The Three Stooges have contributed as much if not more to violent behavior as any other form of media that has shown people hitting each other.
